Most visitors head straight for a beach on Koh Phangan. Centerpoint is in Thongsala instead — the island's main town and ferry hub — and for a lot of trips, that turns out to be the smarter base.
Everything arrives and leaves from here
Thongsala is where the ferries from Koh Samui and Surat Thani come in, so staying here means no transfer after you land — we're a 10-minute walk from the pier. It also means an easy, no-stress departure when your trip ends.
The island's real town, not a tourist strip
Thongsala has the banks, pharmacies, proper supermarkets, and the Pantip night market — five minutes from the hotel — that beach areas on the island don't have. It's where locals actually shop and eat, alongside the tourist crowd.
Beaches are still easy from here
With a rented scooter, most of Koh Phangan's beaches — Haad Yao, Ban Tai, Ban Khai, even Haad Rin for Full Moon Party — are a short ride away. You're not missing the beach, you're just not paying beach-strip prices to sleep near it.
